Zooomr can embarass you

I’m the family IT expert. This means that when we’re invited round to dinner I spend most of the visit chained to the broken computer sorting out the mess and telling them how to do stuff, removing spyware, virii and assorted nastiness. It also means that I try and keep family up to date with new things that might help them.

My mother in law is fairly switched on and also, like me, likes a bit of digital photography. So I thought she might be interested in Zooomr. I sent off an email pointing her at my Zooomr site and saying that next time I’m round I’ll show her how to get it working for her own photos.

So on Sunday, after I’ve solved her list of problems and answered her list of questions, I said “OK, let’s have a look at Zooomr”. First problem – she’s using IE – see Zooomr is wonky with IE

I really, really don’t want to have to teach her a new Browser – especially one with Tabs and side bars and properly customizable toolbars and … Much as I love Firefox I really wanted my dinner.

That was bad enough but then, when I skipped over the problems in IE and started showing her what Zooomr can do, well all I can say is thanks, thanks a bunch to the idiot that chose that moment to dump their soft porn up onto the Zooomr server just as I was showing my mother in law the recent pictures page.

The best bit was that I wasn’t actually looking at the screen at the time – I hit the link then turned and started talking about it. So it is sitting there for a couple of minutes with her looking at it and me chatting away.

Dinner was good tho’

P.S. In case she reads this I have to point out that her machine had no nasties – only one insignificant tracking cookie. My sister in laws machine a few weeks earlier – 8 hours – fork in one hand, keyboard in the other – still make me shiver thinking about it.
