jUploadr prompts a rethink

Now that Zooom has a bulk uploader, in the shape of jUploader, I need to rethink how I upload my images. With a bulk uploader the temptation is to upload far more photos – but it is not that much quicker.
Oh, don’t get me wrong, it is a lot more convenient and it does save a fair bit of my time in the actual selection and upload process. However, the physical upload process takes exactly the same amount of time – you just don’t need to nursemaid it so much.
When I started to use Zooomr I thought of it as, among other things, a backup technique. I could dump all my photos onto someone else’s server and I had a[nother] backup lying around. Nice theory, unfortunately I only have a 256K upload speed so in practice it is just not workable.
If I upgrade to a digital SLR (7+Mp), instead of my happy snapper (3Mp), the problem will be a lot worse. That is until I can get a faster line – which isn’t going to happen any time soon.
[whinge]I live in the capital of Scotland, you would think it was out in the sticks – my area was one of the last areas to get 2Mb/256k ADSL in the whole of the UK. I still get “I’m sorry your area does not support 8Mb broadband” when I go looking for a better service.[/whinge]
So, cutting a long story a little less long – I’m dropping down a size (and a JPG quality setting too) in my next batch of photos. I’ll see what I think once they are there.
My next batch are from the 2006 Flower Festival Parade in Madeira. The superb shot shown here is the best of the bunch. Be sure to also check out my other shots from Madeira in 2003 (also includes some flower festival shots). Incidentally, I chose to put my flower girl above up in all her hi-res full quality glory – she deserved it.
P.S. My SmartSets are currently broken in Zooomr, the thumbnails when viewed from the “Sets” view are all one place out. I also had extreme difficulty created the above SmartSet – it did not want to accept the Tags that were clearly there and I had to resort to using the photo dates to get them in – and even then I needed to go one day either side. Strange.

Hi, just wondering how you put the set of Zooomr Photos on the right sidebar. Did you use a text object to put it there? I’m currently setting up my blog after a long while.

Dukz,
Yes, you are correct the images are done using text objects from the “Sidebar Widget” setup. The content, text, of the widget looks like (spaces in to stop it parsing the html in this message) :
The bulk of the html gets cut and paste from Zooomr’s image “All sizes” page – but could equally come from any image source and is also a link. You need to muck about with what you get from Zooomr on formatting, sizing and titles.
