jUploadr prompts a rethink

Posted by briandh on September 10, 2006

Oh yes! I know I'm cute.

Now that Zooom has a bulk uploader, in the shape of jUploader, I need to rethink how I upload my images. With a bulk uploader the temptation is to upload far more photos – but it is not that much quicker.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, it is a lot more convenient and it does save a fair bit of my time in the actual selection and upload process. However, the physical upload process takes exactly the same amount of time – you just don’t need to nursemaid it so much.

Creating a Zooomr SmartSet

Posted by briandh on September 2, 2006

I wrote briefly in an earlier Blog about using the Zooomr SmartSet feature. Whilst checking my blog stats I noticed that people were looking for help on using this feature and that there wasn’t much around.

At first this surprised me as, to me, the SmartSet feature is very intuitive. However, I am a software engineer with an interest in photography whereas many Zooomr users may be photographers with little or no interest or talent in computers.

So, here is the low down on how to use SmartSets

Jazzy Portals

Posted by briandh on August 27, 2006

Fresh from my success with my Iona Portal Tour, I have taken my photos from the Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Jazz on a Summers Day concert and linked them together through portals.

I think you should be able to get to all of the 40+ images although you may occasionally have to back track.

Let me know what you think.

Through the Zooomr Portal

Posted by briandh on August 27, 2006

I have just found a new feature in Zooomr – Portals.

These are actually very simple in principle but add huge possibilities and are such fun to use. Quite simply you can add any number of rectangular hotspots to your images, these hotspots can be linked to any of you other photos and have a bit of text beside them.

I’ve not being doing this Zooomr thing long but, come on, some of these pictures must be worth looking at.

Real of fake?

Posted by briandh on August 19, 2006

PerfectIsland

I took this photo about four years ago on a ferry from Oban to Mull en-route to Iona.

It struck me at the time that it looks a little unreal, or maybe “too real”, as if it were the output of a fractal landscape generator. Looking at it again now, it still has that strange feel to it.

Another thing about this image is that it was taken by my then fairly new digital camera. Looking at it now I am very happy with the quality of the image.

Whilst uploading old images to Zooomr I was recently struck by how much better my old 35mm scanned photos were compared to my recent digital ones. This image, and some others I have since reviewed, have renewed my faith in my digital camera. Maybe the problem isn’t the camera – maybe its me.

Zooomr is wonky with IE

Posted by briandh on August 16, 2006

What a real shame, I’m utterly heartbroken, try to use Zooomr in IE and it goes a bit strange. Read the rest of this entry »

Zooomr Wish List

Posted by briandh on August 11, 2006

Before I get going I should say that I was going to call this post “Zooomr Grumps” but realized that would be unfair. It is still early days for Zooomr and I’m sure most, or all of this will be addressed in due course. There is also the chance that I just haven’t figured out how to do some of this stuff.

I like Zooomr and haven’t used any other Photo sharing service so can’t compare – and I got a free Pro account – so no “Grumps”, just a few things I would like.

OK, let’s get going (these are in no particular order): Read the rest of this entry »

Zooomr Findings

Posted by briandh on August 8, 2006

I thought I would share how I’ve been getting along with Zooomr, it might help get my own thoughts in gear for making better use of it.

My efforts can be seen here: Brian’s Zooomr Account and are best viewed using the “Smartset” feature of Zooomr (more on that later).

Overcoming my shyness

The first hurdle I had to get over was my own private nature. Read the rest of this entry »
