Smoothed Jersey Panorama

Posted by briandh on October 22, 2006

Taking the techniques I learned from smoothing my Menorcan night shots, I have improved (I think) my existing Jersey Panorama.

Smooth Nights

Posted by briandh on October 21, 2006

Introduction

I promised in my Menorcan Memories post to let you know how I got on smoothing out some of my night shots taken from my balcony. Jumping straight to the answer – pretty well, I think.

Menorcan Memories

Menorcan Memories

We are just back from a two-week holiday in Cala Galdana, Menorca. At this point it is normal to say things like – ‘you really need to go to Menorca and see X, Y and Z’. Unfortunately, for you, we rarely got ourselves out of the hotel on this trip. This is not usual for us. We normally do all the tourist things, see all the sites, visit all the famous places – especially when it is somewhere we have never been before. So why the change? Two main reasons:

  • we were both knackered and highly stressed out, and
  • the hotel facilities were excellent.

Trundling round all the sites was just not what we wanted this time.

However, I can pass on some useful info and pictures.

jUploadr prompts a rethink

Posted by briandh on September 10, 2006

Oh yes! I know I'm cute.

Now that Zooom has a bulk uploader, in the shape of jUploader, I need to rethink how I upload my images. With a bulk uploader the temptation is to upload far more photos – but it is not that much quicker.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, it is a lot more convenient and it does save a fair bit of my time in the actual selection and upload process. However, the physical upload process takes exactly the same amount of time – you just don’t need to nursemaid it so much.

Creating a Zooomr SmartSet

Posted by briandh on September 2, 2006

I wrote briefly in an earlier Blog about using the Zooomr SmartSet feature. Whilst checking my blog stats I noticed that people were looking for help on using this feature and that there wasn’t much around.

At first this surprised me as, to me, the SmartSet feature is very intuitive. However, I am a software engineer with an interest in photography whereas many Zooomr users may be photographers with little or no interest or talent in computers.

So, here is the low down on how to use SmartSets

Jazzy Portals

Posted by briandh on August 27, 2006

Fresh from my success with my Iona Portal Tour, I have taken my photos from the Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Jazz on a Summers Day concert and linked them together through portals.

I think you should be able to get to all of the 40+ images although you may occasionally have to back track.

Let me know what you think.

Through the Zooomr Portal

Posted by briandh on August 27, 2006

I have just found a new feature in Zooomr – Portals.

These are actually very simple in principle but add huge possibilities and are such fun to use. Quite simply you can add any number of rectangular hotspots to your images, these hotspots can be linked to any of you other photos and have a bit of text beside them.

Getting all cultural

Posted by briandh on August 26, 2006

I live in Edinburgh, Scotland so have the benefit of the annual festival season around this time of year: The Official Festival, The Jazz Festival, The Festival Fringe, The Film Festival, The Military Tattoo and The Festival of Annoying People Stuck on Spikes, etc.

This year [pompous voice]my wife and I[/pompous voice] decided to break with our personal tradition and actually go to some shows and stuff during the festival.

[This post includes pictures from Mardi Gras, Jazz on A Summers Day, and the Festival Cavalced]

I am knackered

Posted by briandh on August 26, 2006

Hell Hole

I’m just in from the garden, if you can call it that.

I like gardening, I just don’t get the time – which means that every time I do get out there it is like one of those jungle trek adventure films. I keep expecting to find dinosaurs in some forgotten corner.

This mornings pleasure was a little corner at the side of my front garden. In this place the builders / utility companies placed a couple of man hole covers. As householder I must keep these clear and accessible.

Got a better Theme

Posted by briandh on August 24, 2006

Thanks to JV I’ve found the “Andreas09 2.0” theme which does the nice borders on images. It even let you choose your own colours (so I’m not just copying his).

I have to switch to one thumbnail across in my sidebar but I can live with that.
